RE: Babe Ruth Softball Tournaments Hosted by Bridgton Recreation
Calling all community members, volunteers, organizations, and businesses!
It is a wonderful time of year! Spring is underway, summer is coming fast and Bridgton softball teams are halfway through their 2019 regular season schedule. We would like to thank Main Eco Homes for their 2019 regular season and post-season uniform sponsorship. Good luck to all the teams the rest of the way!
The Town of Bridgton is one of many communities that make up the Andy Valley Babe Ruth Softball League. In the middle of June our league hosts a local league championship tournament for our Minors and Majors divisions. Just after this tournament is completed the All-Star season starts for our 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under divisions. Players are selected based on a league vote from league coaches to play and represent Andy Valley Softball at the Maine State Babe Ruth All-Star Championship Tournament. The winner of this tournament will earn an automatic bid to the World Series in Treasure Coast, Florida July 25th through August 3rd.
The Bridgton Recreation Department is excited to announce it will be hosting the Minors and Majors Division Championship Tournaments and the Maine State Babe Ruth All-Star Tournament this season. The Andy Valley Minors Championship Tournament will be played on June 14th through June 16th and the Majors Championship Tournament will be played on June 17th and 18th. The Maine State Babe Ruth All-Star 8u (participant dependent)10u, 12u, 14u Tournament will be played on July 12th through July 14th (14u Dates TBA)
Newly renovated Junior Harmon Field (Lower Main St & Oak St.) and Stevens Brook Elementary School Field 1 and 2 will host all games. Harmon Field will host all the championship games. A complete game schedule for the tournaments will be available in early June.
We are in need of the community’s help for these two tournaments! Each field will require gate attendants, field maintenance crew members, scorekeepers, scoreboard operators, announcers, umpires, game officials, snack shack help, and more. We know you are busy but even just a few hours will help us host successful tournaments in the Town of Bridgton and create incredible lifelong memories for players on the field. Perhaps too, family’s will discover their new favorite after-game ice cream spot, mom and dad’s next dinner date, or maybe even grandma finds her new ‘secret spot’ antique shop. Of course, a walk-through Pondicherry Park after breakfast before the first game or a dip at one of several Town beaches after a hot ball game is always nice too.
We are also encouraging non-profit and local businesses in Bridgton and the Lake Region to join in and work with us to create a partnership that will help build an incredible experience for the hundreds of players and softball families that will visit Bridgton for the June and July tournaments. There are many unique ways to create a partnership that will maximize your organization/businesses visibility to families from all across the state and ultimately create an exciting fun atmosphere for young ladies who have earned their way to play in these tournaments.
It is also our hope to be able to develop and pass out a collection fun items, discount coupons, future event flyers, and a collection of ‘Things To Do While In Bridgton’ to each family and team member while they spend the summer weekends with our community and explore our downtown restaurants, store fronts, beaches, and parks. It is a great way to invite and show our guest, that might not have known about our Town, what makes our Town so special and why they should visit us more often throughout the year.
